Capt Ghani Ishak aka Ishak Ghani:

Even my parents and siblings wonder why I am not a conformist! But then again I left home when I was barely 15 years old, also in search of a dream. I was still in shorts when I was put on board this little turbo prop aeroplane, no jet engines in those days, all excited not even knowing what to expect at the other end of the journey. It took 30 hours and three stops to get to London , no direct flights then, and so my growing up began……….!

You will have to buy my autobiography if you want to know the rest of my growing up story……as they say there is no such thing as a free lunch. Anyway, here's a bit more about me:

  • Was born on 2 nd June ……..oh so long ago!
  • Was at sea in the merchant navy for a number of years,
  • Did ship management for a quarter of a century,
  • Went back to university to study law and called to the English Bar in 2002,
  • Did some consultancy work for a couple of years after the call to the Bar,
  • Live a hectic life, looking after Adrian , our Boy, these last few months while Alison enjoys herself at work.

Alison Murugesu-Ghani:

Having given up a much loved job to go on this expedition, I'm now the co-driver, chief cook, navigator, researcher, fund raiser and child entertainer. But before we get any further, best let you all into a little secret … me navigate? That would be funny - if I didn't actually have to do it!

When Ghani brought up the ‘pre-Adrian days' plan of traveling the world overland, I was up for it in a flash. This would be quite different, though, from anything remotely adventurous we had done in the past – we will have a kid in tow!

Anyway, spending 2.5 years on the road without too many creature comforts may be one of my main challenges. What I look forward to the most is sleeping under the stars and traveling to places we would never have dreamt of visiting and experiencing the way of life of many other cultures.

  • Age 37
  • A hotelier for 12 years before realizing that there are many other customer relations related jobs out there with more conducive working hours.
  • Whatever spare time is usually spent scrapbooking
  • Love food, especially when I didn't have to cook it!

Adrian Ishak Ghani:

What can I say? I have no choice other than to go along with this grand plan of my beloved but …mad parents? Anyway, the best part about this expedition for me is the fact that I don't need to go to school, as such! Home schooling…hmmm, we'll see.

My role in this expedition is chief charmer and patience tester……a competition between Dad and Mum as to who has more patience.

  • Age : 3
  • Interests include Transformers, Dinosaurs and Drawing.

Tuah:

Hi, I am Tuah and I feel lucky to be associated with Ghani, Alison and Adrian. Fortunately for me they had enough thoughts put into christening me as guess what I was nearly named?… Unta! a bl….y camel, in English. Can you imagine that? I guess Auntie Marge, she was Alison's Mum's student and teacher to Ian, Alison's brother (confused? I am too), meant well as I am supposed to be reliable, resilient and a beast ….what? what?, what… beast?! I am not a beast, I am a Nissan Patrol GR 3.0 Di SVE and proud to be one.

All Malaysians know who Hang Tuah was, a legendary Malay warrior, but “tuah” also means “good luck” and hopefully I am to Ghani and family. I think we are going to be a good team and after all what Mitch of Sturgess, Leceister had told Ghani about me, I aim to prove my worth.
