Driving Permits
Ghani and I both hold Malaysian and British driving licenses, but we also opted to apply for International Driving Permits. These are valid for 1 year from issue, and can be obtained through the RAC in the UK, or the AAM in Malaysia.

Visas & Documents

1 st Leg – Europe and Morocco

For the first leg of our journey, we will only require visas for Morocco, obtainable from the Moroccan Embassy in London.

We will not be requiring a Carnet for this leg

2 nd  Leg – London to Cape Town
We require visas for Libya, Egypt and Sudan for this leg. Malaysian passport holders are allowed 2 weeks tourist entry to Egypt without a visa, but as we will lost likely be there for a longer period, we decided to play it safe. Our Sudanese visas will have to be applied for in Cairo, as the validity is for only one month from application date. Our Libyan visas will (hopefully) be applied for by complulsary our Libyan fixer/guide/agent and will be issued at the border.

Tuah requires a Carnet for this leg, and this is being attended to by Mr Paul Gowan of the RAC in Bristol. Egypt requires us to cover Tuah for 800% his value - the higest in the world!

**Update : We decided not to travel through Libya, as the agents kept changing the charges for the compulsary guide everytime we spoke. We instead rerouted our travels from Italy to Greece via ferry, then through Turkey, Syria, Jordan (for which we had pre obtained visas incase) and then from Aqaba to Neweiba, Egypt via ferry.

3 rd  Leg – United States Of America

Our USA Visa's were obtained before we left for Africa, as we needed to know ourselves that we were able to travel there, before shipping Tuah off from Cape Town to Norfolk, Virginia.

The carnet was not accepted in the USA, and a temporary import bond had to be raised. We also needed clearance from the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) for Tuah to be cleared from the port.
