October 2008

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

We are back in Kuala Lumpur for the month, having flown in on the 2nd night. It's nice to be at home, with my toys, television, sofa, bed, toilet and of course, Mama.

Dad and Mum have been running around a fair bit. Dad's right foot was a bit swollen when we left the UK, and inspite of Mum telling him to sleep with it elevated, the swelling was not subsiding. Eventually, after a few visits to the doctor, a blood and urine test and an ultrasound scan, we were told that there were no blockages in his legs, but although the tests results showed his kidneys were clear, the ultrasound scan seemed to indicate a mass on his left kidney.

Of course, any news like this will always come over the weekend, when nothing can be done until Monday, so the mood at home was rather solemn. On the 13th, Dad had a CT Scan done and the results showed that his kidneys were thankfully clear. However, he had some water in his lungs, which we were told the next day by Dr Nik Helmy Nik Zainal, Dad's Cardiologist, was caused by his heart condition. This was also causing the swelling in his feet! Some tablets to reduce the water retention did the trick!

With Dad getting the green light to proceed with our travels, we started with our planning again - research, visa applications and so on. Mum decided that instead of starting off from London on 1 November 2008, as planned, we should delay it by a week, to give us a bit more time in Kuala Lumpur to get organised. I think she secretly is enjoying the fact that we have running water on the tap, toilets that flush and having clothes to wear that are ironed!

Comforts of home

Eventually, we book our return flight to the UK for the 4th November, 2008. Dad and Mum are running are over the place getting visas organised, planning and packing. I am lucky to have Mama in Kuala Lumpur with us to look after me at home, or I would have had to be dragged all around town with them!
