5th December 2008: Bodrum to Pamukkale

We had the company of Graham and Glen at breakfast this morning. They own  a property investment company based in Aberdeen, specialising in property investment in Turkey. Their company is unique in that they are the developers themselves and as such provide back up services for defects and provide guarantees for 10years similar to the NHBC in the UK. They were equally interested in what we are doing and asked Alison who was on the laptop to email our website to them. As it turned out Graham was born in Kinrara but returned to the UK with his parents at the age of two.

By the time we packed up it was well past 1000hrs and we decided to visit the Bodrum Castle before proceeding to Pamukkale. Bodrum castle was built by the Crusaders in the 15th Century to help repel attacks from the Turks. For over a century St Peter's castle remained the second most important castle of the Order as it erved as a refuge for all Christians in Asia Minor. In June 1522 Sultan Suleiman attacked the Cruasaders headquarters in Rhodes and the castle of Rhodes fell i December 1522. The terms of the surrender included the handing over of St Peter's Castle in Bodrum.

Adrian was given a treat when we parked at the marina where there was a playground for him to run around, while I managed to get on board one of the yatch in the marina. The charter rate per day for the yatch capable of accommodating 12 passengers was a whopping 4000 Euros. I gave that treat for myself a miss.

With the thought that maybe one day I may be able to afford one of the villas in Bodrum, we left for Pamukkale. Just past Milas on top of the mountains we stopped to have lunch. Alison cooked maggie mee for Adrian and turkey sausages for us and we were set to go again within 45 minutes.

The roads were better surfaced than previous roads experienced inurkey and we made good progress. We were in Denizli by 1615hrs well before sunset and got to Pamukkale and found a hotel which was cheap enough at 40YTL and that was with wireless internet conections. We had a lot of time before dinner and walked to the base of the travertines to see the effects of the lights on it. As we were walking past Mehmet's Heaven, Mr Memet called us in and we had a delicious dinner, me having my lamb sis and Alison finally had her fish, grilled trout. Mr Mehmet even gave us "cay" on the house which made us feel at home in his restaurant with traditional settings.
