26th December 2008: Dahab to Sharm el Sheikh

At breakfast this morning Alison ordered an extra English breakfast at a cost of 17EGP. It was huge with sausages, bacon (beef of course) and scrambled eggs and money well spent. Then Alison wanted to try updating the website which I readily agreed and Adrain and I went looking around at the shops. We ended up chatting with the owner of the shop we were in yesterday morning. Apparently the internet connection was too slow to update the photographs and Alison left looking for us. At least she wasn’t mad after finding us which was unusual!

It was time then for us to leave Dahab and Ron, TJ were there to see us off. We were heading for Sharm Al Sheikh to see what the fuss is all about this famous place. The drive indicated in the direction of The Tunnel but we didn’t come across any tunnel and wondered what the tunnel was all about.

As we drove into Sharm, we could see all the big hotel names along the length of the newer part and well decorated with Christmas lights too. Alison suggested for us not to stay the night as it looked rather expensive but I was in two minds. I suggested that we looked around as there was bound to be some less expensive places to stay. We met a tout who offered us an apartment and one look at it was enough for Alison to turn away in disgust.

I then suggested that we have lunch and then look for a place and if we couldn’t find one then we could drive out of town. After lunch at double arches of course, we started driving out and noticed this rather traditional group of buildings and upon enquiry was told that they were available for rental and we ended up in a room without a key for 300EGP. As we insisted on a key we were given another room but less equipped than the first. There was no way out but to take the room and Alison was complaining virtually all night about it on my deaf ears.

As I could see Alison was not happy, I suggested that we go back into town and try and get internet connection to update our website. That cheered her up a bit but unfortunately the connection was so bad that she gave up after a short time. Adrian saw the golden arches we visited earlier on and of course told us he was hungry. As we walked in we saw the free wifi sign and again Alison tried updating the website and couldn’t as the connection was too slow.

At least I tried to keep the peace and although the complaining didn’t stop it was not at a furious pace, thank God!
