As discussed the previous evening we intended to do some photo shoot for the benefit of our sponsors and we went back towards the Swedish border where we had seen some nice spots to take them. We managed to take them with the help of the tripod and timer facilities on the camera.

When I got up at 10 am, Alison was in a better state after having been to the sauna early in the morning, thank God! I got the future motor-cross champions to pose for pictures with Adrian before parting company.

We said our goodbyes to Pekka, Paula and the kids but as usual we never seem to be able to just pack up and go. Alison wanted to send last minute things to Joanne and check her emails. I took the opportunity to clean up Tuah where it matters while waiting. Brian and Ann who were with a group of British campers stopped by just as I was about to drive off and we chatted for a while. It was encouraging to have people making enquiries in respect of our trip.

The way the tent doors were flapping I thought it was heavy downpour that woke me up. Fortunately it was only strong wind but all the same the awning had come off the support and hanging loose. It was sorted out quickly by the same piece of string I use for stowing the owning when on the move.

I thought Alison would have had a good nights rest with my sacrifice but her condition deteriorated. She now decided that she would start on the antibiotics, thank God! As we were having breakfast the French couple parked in front of us in Riga decided to join us. I thought they felt more at home with us then with all the big campervans.

The rain woke me up at 7.00 am, and I thought that we were going to be stuck in the tent the rest of the day. Fortunately after an hour it stopped and a lot of campers began to leave including the French group of four 4x4s and gave us the opportunity to break camp. I gave Gerry a lift to the bakeries to get some pastries to celebrate his 67th birthday with. No sooner had we started tucking in on the offerings I was asked to help out a Dutchman who was stuck in the mud with his campervan.

Alison got up before me today and I decided to have a lie in but not for long as we had a visitor, Jerry. He has been on the road for 8 years, after retirement and selling all his immovable assets in Holland. (Some people thought we were mad!)

6th July 2008 - Bucuresti, Romania |

We woke up at almost 10.00 am as the tent was kept shaded from the rising sun and remained cool. Our Bulgarian friends we met last night enquiring about Tuah, had gone out but apparently staying for a concert tonight. We decided to stay another night to see if the 4x4 Magazine Editor could be contacted on Monday and possibly drop in at the Embassy. We spent quite a few hours at the Zoo to give Adrian a treat which he appreciated but not before some school work.

The campers here start the day early and some had just set up tent when we woke up. Apparently to save on a nights camping charge they check in at 6 am and by 8 am they can already be on the beach. While packing some of the kids were taking an interest in Tuah and Alison got the laptop out to show them what we were doing.

The plan was again to start early and but when I finished showering at 9 a.m. Alison and Adrian were just coming down from the tent. Since we wanted to catch the animals during feeding time there was no real hurry in any case. We had a good breakfast of salmon and scrambled eggs (well I have to regain all the fat I lost), and was at the zoo by noon.
