5th July 2008 - Jupiter to Bucuresti, Romania
Saturday, 05 July 2008 11:51
The campers here start the day early and some had just set up tent when we woke up. Apparently to save on a nights camping charge they check in at 6 am and by 8 am they can already be on the beach. While packing some of the kids were taking an interest in Tuah and Alison got the laptop out to show them what we were doing.

By 11.15 we were out of Camping Popas Zodiac Vest, Jupiter and back on the road. The campsite has enough facilities to cater for campers but the only drawback is the French style toilets they have. Regardless it was a pleasant surprise and totally different experience to that we had in western Romania when we left Resita, disappointed. Being a weekend and school holidays the campsite was however packed.

Pleasant surprise at Popas Zodiac Camp Popas Zodiac Vest - Jupiter - Romania

Pretty crowded during weekend More campers arrived as we left

We drove up the coast to Neptune and couldn’t help noticing an area fenced off with guards and no camera signs on the fences with large houses within. It turned out to be the Presidential retreat. We are law abiding and therefore no photos taken. All along the coast from Venus to Neptune, there are a lot of advertisements for sale of new properties. I guess in a few years time they will not be going so cheaply including those in 23 August.

A town named 23 August

Further up the coast in Eforie there were a lot of construction activities along the beach. Most of the buildings will not be ready this summer though. I also spotted a stretch for nudist but couldn’t turn Tuah around for a second look with my Navigator harping on about me being a danger to other road users! It was also a pleasant surprise to find McDonalds in Constanza.

I got Mc

While writing I discovered that my Navigator had taken us on a roundabout route to get to Bucuresti. I wondered why there was a sign pointing towards Constanta when we joined the Highway A2 at Slozobia and n several other places. No wonder the road surface was not quite to expectation either. We went through Ovidiu, Galbiori and Crucea which are not towns on direct route! There is a large mosque in Ovidiu and no excuse for not going for Friday prayers.

Ghani gets directions to campsite from Romanian cop, Bucharest

Centre of Bucureti has big wide roads but the older buildings are left cement rendered and unpainted. There are plenty of parks and greenery. With the help of Bucuresti police we found Camping Casa Bela which is situated conveniently nearby Carrefour and a shopping mall. We decided to do some grocery shopping and have dinner before returning to the campsite and met Mr. Tardi and family from the Indonesian Embassy while Adrian enjoyed himself at the toy section. People were curious as usual with Tuah, and we even had two Israelis tourist chatting to us.

This is great Dad
