The way the tent doors were flapping I thought it was heavy downpour that woke me up. Fortunately it was only strong wind but all the same the awning had come off the support and hanging loose. It was sorted out quickly by the same piece of string I use for stowing the owning when on the move.
Adrian and the kids in the caravan next to us Martee and Christina had a run around while we prepared to leave. We then had a nice surprise, a visitor form New Zealand, Sonia originally from KL. She saw the Malaysian flag and thought it a good idea to check us out. Sonia and Phil spend half the year in their campervan in Europe escaping the southern winters.
The problem with our pitch was sorted out before we left the site on the metro. On arrival at Rautatientori, armed with map of Helsinki, it was easy enough to make our way to the Town Hall, Presidential Palace, and Cathedral and of course the market. To encourage Adrian to walk we had to entertain him with jumping over potholes and eventually ice cream.
As the weather was always threatening, we decided to taste a local delicacy before making our way back. Deep fried anchovies (slightly larger than ikan bilis), salmon cake, roasted potatoes and salad. Somehow or other we ended up on a boat trip after the meal as it didn’t involve any walking. It was well worth the money as we were shown the sights around Helsinki from the waters which we would not have seen if we were on the roads.
Back at Rastila we visited Sonia and Phil in their campervan and it was a change from the usual chat out in spaces, between the vehicles. We got some useful tips not only about Scandinavia but also Africa as our hosts had been backpacking there some years ago. It was a pleasant and enjoyable day for us.
