2nd July 2009; Morrow Mountain Park to Savannah S Carolina

Again we had a late start this morning. I had brown hash with fried eggs and Adrian had two doughnuts for breakfast. That would keep us quiet for some time I think. At 1100am mileage 69611, we took a slow drive around the Park and ended up at the docks where boats are launched. I offered to drive to the pool area but the offer was not taken and I drove out to our next destination, Savannah GA.

Upon leaving the Park we went on Highway 24 and then on to Highway 73 and at the turn off, all along the lake there were lots of landing jetties which looked privately owned. It was quite a fascinating sight to see all the boats, kayaks and canoes berthed alongside or up on the jetties themselves.

Soon after we left the Park Alison started complaining about her fingers hurting near the joints and said that she hoped it was not arthritis. I jokingly told her that it could be the case of Typorithis as she had no internet connection for the last three days and her fingers needed the exercise. She laughed at that and I thought maybe I was right after all!

As we hit 1-90 South we saw numerous offers on cheap lodging advertised on billboards and when we stopped at a rest area Alison got a copy of the magazines with offer coupons. And there was Alison worried over the fact that it was going to be a long weekend and probably difficult to find rooms! At first we thought of going to Port Wentworth, a few miles before Savannah but then thought it better if we stopped driving a little earlier to make full use of the internet connection we were getting at the motel.

As we were approaching turn off 53 I asked Alison to have a look if there was anything on offer there. It turned out to be a favourite amongst travellers to stop at the turned off as there were about 10 motels within the same area and of course all the fast food outlets were also there. We checked in at the Ramada Inn Walterboro, believed to have the best newly renovated rooms and with full hot breakfast thrown in. Of course with the offer I couldn't claim any Wyndham points...blast!

The receptionist wanted to charge USD4 extra for Adrian and Alison threatened to look elsewhere just as I turned up at the counter. The receptionist gave in knowing very well that there were numerous hotels with offers on the cards. I thought she forgot to charge me the tax on the room which I shall have to check with my credit card account.

We fed Adrian with nuggets and thought we could find sweet corn at KFC after trying earlier on when we couldn't get any. This time they had it in store and Adrian enjoyed having Alison's corn while I saved mine for later. But I thought the chicken was a bit too salty for my liking and I didn't think I would ave any more KFC after this, not in the States anyway.
