3rd July 2009; Walterboro SC to St Augustine, Florida

I was awake at 7.15am, probably due to Alison drumming it into my head that we had to get up early for breakfast, although I went to sleep quite late at 2.30am. I thought that if I was sleepy I could get Alison to drive part of the journey South today. But then I remembered her typorithis and obviously she could not be depended upon to drive!! Anyway breakfast was good but Alison had to comment that the promise in the advert was 6 different cereals but she noticed only 4 on the table. I just turned a deaf ear to avoid any misunderstanding as she was finding faults after the receptionist tried a fast one to charge us extra USD4 for Adrian.

On crossing the border into Florida, we stopped at the information centre, had our free orange juice and collected some brochures. A gentleman approached us while we were having our juice and enquired if Tuah was our truck. He turned out to be English born in London but now lives in Denmark and spending 2 years in the US teaching English. It was too early for lunch and we drove on to the next rest area 71 miles further on before stopping for lunch.

Tuah as usual attracted more attention when we stopped for lunch. Several people asked us what we were doing and I had to give them a run down of what had been happening to us. I thought maybe I could get my remarks recorded and just turn on the tape whenever someone ask us the same questions. But then again it wouldn't be so nice as to speak with them and see what their thoughts are!

We were originally bound for Orlando but suddenly the destination was changed by Alison to a campsite in St Augustne, she claiming that would arrive in Orlando a bit too late for comfort. I didn't care where we go as long as we don't have to pay for accommodation through our noses. As it turned out the Anastasia State Park did not have any sites available and referred us to some other campsite which were apparently also full.

I told Alison that if we had to we could stay in a motel as I could see vacancy signs in some of them that we passed. She rang one up and was surprised to be quoted USD120 plus tax and it was nothing fantastic about the place. I was sure I spotted a reasonable looking establishment with the sign up indicating a price of between USD59 and 88.

I found Sunset Inn which was in a horrible state asking for USD60. I then drove further on and got a quote of USD 79 at Budget Inn which I thought was reasonable. After settling in we had Maggie mee for dinner. Just as Alison was persuading Adrian to go to sleep, she potted a small cockroach on the bed sheet and fortunately we already had dinner otherwise I didn't know if I could eat! Anyway she got rid of the cockroach surprisingly without having me on the act as well. But the thought of spending another night at the motel completely vanished from my mind!
