| 14th July 2009: Miami to Lake Manatee State Park |
|
This morning Susie made us fried rice the way I had never seen it done before. According to Alison she added some curry powder to make it green, while I thought that with all the vegetables inside it would naturally turn green. Regardless it tasted good and I must say that Susie is a pretty good cook. She made enough for us to tapau for our lunch as well. It was rather sad for us to leave but we have our goal to achieve and I reckon Susie would be in good hands with Leo for companion. We said our goodbyes only to come back a few minutes later with roses for Susie. We couldn't just leave without something for her to remember us. We stopped for lunch at a rest area and it was hot so damn hot that even Adrian refused to go out to stretch his legs. The rest area looked new too as there were young trees around and no other shades. We got out of there soon enough and thank our lucky stars for the air-conditioning in Tuah. Initially we aimed to go to St Petersburg but thought it better for us to camp outside the resort city as KOA kamping charged USD40 which was way above what we would pay for camping. We then decided to stop a little earlier and Alison found the Lake Manatee State Park in the guide book. It is about 40 miles south of Tampa and cost USD24 inclusive of taxes. The only problem was the small sand flies that buzzes around our faces which rather annoying. I had my hammock up for the first time but could only enjoy it briefly as the flies were attacking me once I got comfortable. Alison asked what I wanted for dinner and as I was not very hungry we settled for soup. Back to routine I thought after being in Miami for 3 days. As soon as dusk sets in we were set upon by mosquitoes, hundreds of them. The only safe haven for us was the tent or the toilets. While Alison and Adrian have had their showers they went for the tent while I went to shower. It was so bloody hot even my legs got stuck to the toilet seats with my sweat. When I got back to Tuah, Adrian was already asleep but sweating and between Alison and I we took turns to use the fan to cool ourselves down. Thank God it turned cooler as the night progressed or was it just my imagination?
