15th July 2009; Lake Manatee to Manatee Springs State Parks

My anticipation that it was going to be hot in the morning as there was no shade to block the sun was correct and I bet Alison regretted not wanting to move yesterday evening. Anyway, it was about time we start waking up earlier than we had been doing at Susie's. By the time we were ready to move it was really hot and Alison and Adrian was in Tuah with the air-conditioning on when I came back from the shower.

Alison set the GPS for Tallahassee and off we went dropping the car tag for the pitch at the gate. We wanted to see what St Petersburg was like but Alison just couldn't key it in on the GPS. We found out later that there was no way we could avoid the toll coming from the South. The toll was for a new bridge known as the Skyway.

St. Petersburg is one big holiday resort with literally thousands of hotels lining up the beaches and streets off them. It has also nice looking residential areas with direct access to the water. As the heat was intense we didn't feel like going out and just drove through. As the traffic was bad with too many lights we decided to stop at Arbys which had an offer of a beef sandwich with every drink purchased. We had to look for something with air-conditioning and discovered that Arbys had a different offer every Wednesdays. No doubt we'll be at Arbys again ext Wednesday!

When we got to Chiefland, Alison wanted to get some groceries at Walmart and at the same time wanted me to have a look at the possibility of purchasing a battery operated fan, after the experience we had last night. The fan was cheap enough but the battery consumption was too high and batteries cost is high too. So we abandoned the idea with me eyeing a mosquito tent instead. Alison questioned its need and where to stow it.

We left Walmart without buying either the fan or mosquito tent but I harped on about the latter being useful and Alison decided to leave it to me to turn around if I really wanted to purchase one. I immediately turned Tuah around and headed back for Walmart. Alison must have agreed that it was a good idea as she went into Walmart without any complaints.

As we had spent too much time in Walmart, Alison found a State Park about 8 miles away, The Manatee Springs Park and we headed for it. As soon as we got there I started to assemble the tent while Alison cooked. Assembling it was more difficult than I thought and it took me an hour with Adrian being more of a hindrance than help. But the boy did offer to help out!

Well it did help keep the insects out while we ate and it was bliss in the night when I started on the journal. It was money well spent but I didn't know how I was going to store it and fold the tent in the morning. Well that's tomorrows problem!
