| 20th July 2009; New Orleans to Lafayette |
|
After taking photos of Tuah with the hotel courtyard in the background we were ready to leave at 11.15am. Today we decided to drive only a short distance of around 140 miles to Lafayette where Alison had identified a KOA Kamping. We called Adrienne and told her to expect us the next day in the late afternoon. Unfortunately Jack was not going to be home though. As we neared Lafayette we spotted a notice board displaying the Tabasco Sauce sign and I wondered if the sauce had anything to do with the area. We learnt later in one of the brochures that Tabasco sauce originated from a nearby island and considered visiting it the next day after checking distances etc. By this time Alison was on the wheel as I was so sleepy and just couldn't keep my eyes open. Since it was only a short distance I let her drive all the way to the campsite. After choosing a good pitch we unpacked and started preparing lunch. We had steak sandwiches for lunch , not because we wanted to but had to as the fridge was playing up and the temperature had risen to 7deg C. It was then time to do a bit of shopping at Walmart and of course Alison got the folding chair she wanted since Africa when I got the stools in Nairobi Kenya as replacement for Adrian's and my chairs which fell apart in a in Ethiopia. I couldn't believe that I resisted for so long! The stools were still in good condition after so many months but uncomfortable to sit on as they didn't have a backrest. One of the workers at the campsite was a happy man indeed when he took home two made in Africa stools! When we got back to the campsite Adrian was pestering Alison wanting t go for a swim and Alison was not entertaining him saying that the pool was closing soon. I had to oblige although I would have been glad to put my feet up. I let him loose in the pool for about 45 mins and he was a happy boy. But I ended up having to shower him too as Alison was making a fuss about it while she had to cook etc. We had grilled sausages with mash and salad for dinner which went down very well. While we were eating Adrian who was sat curled up in his “new chair” had fallen asleep. Fortunately there weren't too many mosquitoes around and his legs had been sprayed with repellent. Alison went for a quick shower after clearing up and carried Adrian on to the tent. I offered to carry him mind, but Alison wouldn't have any of it, bless her.
