Although I didn’t get to sleep till 4.00 am I had to get up pretty early to move Tuah to allow a guest to get his car out. No point going back to sleep after that and during breakfast we met up with the easy going and friendly Australian group who had arrived after us the previous night. To my surprise they spoke Croatian fairly fluently and I was informed that their parents/grand parents had migrated to Australia in the early 60s.
As internet access was available and room comfortable, we decided to take our time responding to mails and pay bills before going out. First stop was going to be Blagaj, where proper attire is expected and we came across campsite Wimbledon on the way there. At the entrance of Tekija, the Dervish House Alison saw the sign 3 km and wondered if we had to walk that distance to get to the house, surely not in the 36 C heat. It turned out to be the ticket cost, 3 Marks.
The House was used for Muslim scholars and two of the imams were buried there with the tombs marked by two draped coffins in one of the rooms. The rest of the rooms housed religious books and Korans. Adrian had to test the flowing river by the house with the water temperature of 10 C as that got his interest most.
We decided to have lunch by the river where Adrian could continue wetting his feet while we ate. I guessed she was Malaysian when I saw this young lady walking into the restaurant and surely enough 15 minutes later Shahrir, Kamaliah and the rest of the group followed in. Edhem, their friend didn’t hesitate to greet us as we were walking out and it was a pleasant surprise to meet up with another Malaysian family. They were in Bosnia for a short holiday and would be heading back to KL after 2 days in Dubrovnik.
The next stop was Pocitelj a 30 km drive. It is an attractive old village but it was too hot to be walking around especially for Adrian. We headed back for Mostar and decided to visit the Old Town and Bridge before going back to the Guest House. Free showers and water was available on the cobbled path and Adrian decided to have one apart from the ice cream he already had while Alison took photos of Bosnian hunks!!!
At the old bridge there was a photo reminding visitors of Mostar in 1993 after all the bombings. It has taken a lot of time to rebuild the town but it is progressing well. |
