30th June 2009; Washington VA to Roanake VA

It had been raining on and off during the night but this morning the weather looked to be dry, thank God! But as the toilet facilities were far from where we were and coming back to Tuah would be a climb up a hill we decided to pack up and go down with Tuah and proceed from there to a rest area for breakfast.

We got up as early as we could but by the time we got to the office for breakfast most of the stuff had finished. It didn't matter in ant case as they don't provide cereals nor bread for toast for that matter. My priority was to settle John's invoice which I couldn't do on two occasions due to time limitations. This morning I got through and received confirmation from HSBC.

I was still in the tent when I heard voices outside and it turned out to be another couple enquiring about our trip. I was tempted to shout out to Alison not to exaggerate on her dreams and thought better of it.

It was raining all night after we had turned in fortunately and when I got up at 6.30am it was still drizzling but I managed to make coffee while writing up the journal. By 9am Alison was ready to come down and as the drizzle was fairly light she cooked breakfast while I quickly put the tent down for fear of more rain coming our way.

This morning we woke up to sunshine although the sky was not absolutely blue it is a change from the last few days. We slept late however due to Adrian waking us up late at night and early ours of the morning with his kicking and prancing around in his sleep. At one stage I woke up panicking feeling claustrophobic as it was pitch black outside in the forest.

The rain had stopped when we decide to get out of the tent. As I was climbing down the ladder, a fellow camper, Lew who had a RV next to our pitch came over and declared that he had a look at our website and was fascinated by our adventure. After a short chat he was kind enough to let us have breakfast and freshen up with a promise to come by later with the wives when we were ready.

Today it was a real treat for us as the hotel provided good continental breakfast with even waffle on offer. Alison was being a glutton and had two helpings of waffle, and she wondered why she was not loosing any weight. At 10.15am mileage reading 67876 we left the Comfort Inn for Laconia, Meredith and Conway taking the slower non-toll roads.

I really felt like having a lie in today but Alison woke me up at 8am to remind me that I have to report in my INR reading to the anticoagulation unit in London. I crawled out of bed at 8.30am to get the test kit from the car and saw that it was absolutely pouring down with rain and the wind was almost gale force.

Our first experience in a State Park campsite showed us that we needed to separate our tent from the Car, which is not possible with the roof tent, as one needs to drive to a shower although the toilets were nearby. This morning after bringing the tent down and breakfast in the car as it was raining, Alison checked the showers out and found there was hot water available. By the time she had her shower it was about 10.45am before we checked out.

Alison woke me up at 7.35am and I noted that she had put most of the stuff back in the car barring my change of clothing. It was then that I noticed a message from Rhiza informing me that he was in Cambridge and not Boston proper. I got an address where he was at so there was no problem getting there and it would take roughly the same time to Boston.

I thought this morning I would wake up early to start packing the car up but went back to sleep after waking up at 6am. The next thing I know was Alison scurrying up and down and it was already 8.15am.

Early start for us today as we needed to pack up and shift to Days Inn while waiting for Sharon to return from her holidays with the family. By 1.20pm we were all ready to leave for the hotel and Jo came with us to take us out to the Zoo. After we had checked in at Days Inn, Chester, I found out they didn't offer complimentary breakfast, which was a pity.

Today, I got up pretty late at 11am due to watching football on TV and the best part was that the matches were old ones of Barcelona. I didn't realise until I noticed the date on the screen indicating 2008. As soon as I got up I was made to realise that Alison had been working hard getting the laundry done and if it was meant to make feel guilty, I wasn't!

When I woke up it was 9.30am. My feet were holding well after increasing the dosage of lasix by half a tablet as long a I have them elevated in the night. I could see it was a going to be a lazy day as we decided yesterday not to go to New York and if we needed to it has to be a drive through day trip. By 11.30am I was still fiddling around with the laptop and only then went for a shower.

We had arranged to have brunch with David and Joanne this morning and by 10am we were ready to go. David suggested a place nearby rather than going to town as it takes 40 minutes each way and too time consuming.

We were out of the hotel by 9am which wasn't too bad and even had time to have coffee and a bowl of cereal. Unfortunately we found out the Days Inn in Washington does not provide breakfast and we were told that we could buy breakfast at Subway, which is probably owned by the same chain!!

As usual Alison was excited to hear what progress there was on Tuah. She left me at breakfast to sort out the room extension and came straight to the room expecting to see an email form John. But as predicted there was nothing otherwise we would have heard last night before John closed up for the night. Today’s breakfast was worse than usual with no bread and no juices. As it turned out the stupid bugger at the front desk had not turned the juice dispenser……doh!

This is the 10th day we are in Norfolk, and unfortunately there is nothing for us to do, not without transport! I am looking forward to the breakfast this morning as Alison had bought some eggs and we are trying to boil them in the coffee percolator. Ooops, I forgot to boil the eggs!

One thing I can confirm about the Americans is the fact that they want to do things differently to everyone else. For instant the language, the spelling as been changed from the original English. Never have I seen toilets without doors, or at least half doors. In the last campsite they only had curtains to cover ones modesty. The funny thing was that they had doors and curtains in the showers!!!!

Today I woke up early with excitement and had a peek at Tuah from the windows. He seemed OK and undisturbed. Alison was also awake but t?en asked me a funny question, if it was raining? I just saw that it was bright outside and immediately responded with a no! Then I saw water splashing beneath the door ad realized something was amiss.
