This morning, John faxed me all the forms required for Customs and DOT declaration. To my surprise there was one form which required to be notarized. Now where the hell am I supposed to go to for a notary public!!
I found a yellow page in the room and found a listing of Notary Public and to my surprise most of the UPS stores have facilities for document to be notarized. Not only that, they also provide faxing, printing and other services as well. The only thing was that the nearest one to us was about 4 miles away. By now the Acer is really becoming handy and Alison quickly did a search on how to get to the UPS store and the times for the buses. There was a bus at 28 minutes past the hour and I didn’t waste much time in getting to the bus stop after finding out how much it would cost if I were to get one of the mobile notary (yes they even have mobile notary) to come to the hotel. I went on my own as I am now entitled to “seniors” bus fare which is half the normal fare. I got to Kroger Shopping centre and found it to be rather nice and civilized contrary to the comment we found in the internet. The UPS store staffs were friendly but not accustomed to the form to be notarized and even after I indicated to them the portion they had to fill in, still made a mistake and filled in my details instead of theirs. All they did was struck off what they wrongly filled and replaced it accordingly. It didn’t matter if the form was messy. I don’t think it would be acceptable in Malaysia!!! Anyway, I thought I would have a taste of” Wendy’s “on the way back since I had 41 minutes to wait for the bus. It was just like any other fast food junk that we have been eating these last few days! As I ate I looked through my messages and found one from Alison telling me that there was a Notary Public at the Gift & Wrap store near the hotel. What good is it to know after the event!!! I don’t think I’ll need a notary public soon. When I checked the emal I found that Paul of Safmarine had agreed to reduce the demurrage charges from USD225 to USD50/day. That was a relief but I wasn’t quite satisfied and will have to go back to him on this issue, especially when the Customs Brokers only forwarded the forms required for submission earlier on this morning. John had nothing to offer in way of updates as to Tuah’s situation other than he is listed as number 27th to be inspected. He had by the time I got back to the hotel, forwarded all the documents I faxed him from UPS offices. Nothing else for me to do but wait….and wait….and wait!!!! Damn the USA. |
