Our first experience in a State Park campsite showed us that we needed to separate our tent from the Car, which is not possible with the roof tent, as one needs to drive to a shower although the toilets were nearby. This morning after bringing the tent down and breakfast in the car as it was raining, Alison checked the showers out and found there was hot water available. By the time she had her shower it was about 10.45am before we checked out. While waiting for Alison to check out, A lady and her husband Wally Gates, no connection to Bill, stopped their car next to ours and asked us where we were from and what we were doing etc. The Americans are not shy to ask and very straight forward. Yesterday it was the same when a gentleman of Pakistani origin came by to ask similar questions and another shouted if we were going round the world when we stopped to give way to traffic. On the way to Provincetown we decided to stop at Wellfleet, a harbour town renown for their fresh fish and Oysters, yummy!!! We got direction towards Mac's Shack where I got my Father's day treat of 6 lovely oysters with Mac's own sauce. I also had lobster bisque while Alison had clam chowder. I was full, and so was Adrian with his corn on the cob fries by the time we drove on. I don't know if Alison had enough as she was eyeing the fried calamari!!! We drove on to the Pilgrim Monument which commemorates the first landing of the Mayflower Pilgrims in Provincetown on November 21, 1620. It is said that the top of the monument offers a panoramic view of the surrounding areas but on a day like today, we gave it a pass. Driving round the town, it appears touristy with the usual gift shops and art galleries. Today, as it had been raining throughout most of the day, we decided to go to a motel early enough so as Adrian can enjoy the freedom of running around if not in the open at least in the room. Alison found one in a magazine, which indicated an offer price of USD34 an hours drive away. While on the way she ad to get down a couple of times to make enquiries and didn't quite like the idea. A bit of tension was created but we soon got over it. On arrival at Town & Country Motel in West Yarmouth, I was told that the offer ended on 18th June as indicated in the advert. We ad to pay the asking price with a discount for AA membership. There are lots of things to do in Cape Cod, golfing is a favourite, but be forewarned that the temperature averages only 78F in the peak summer months of July and August. And on a day like today at 14C (57F) we even needed to put on our winter coats!!!
