22nd June 2009; West Yarmouth MA to Manchester NH

I really felt like having a lie in today but Alison woke me up at 8am to remind me that I have to report in my INR reading to the anticoagulation unit in London. I crawled out of bed at 8.30am to get the test kit from the car and saw that it was absolutely pouring down with rain and the wind was almost gale force. Anyway, my INR reading for today was 3.2 which was still high but then I knew what to expect from the anticoagulation unit when they checked the answering machine.

Alison got up to get the boxes out from Tuah as she needed winter clothes, and I don't blame her! I went to get coffee from the reception area, which was a fair distance to walk in the rain, and cursed them for not providing the coffee percolator in every block. By the time we had breakfast of our own cereals and repacked Tuah, it was past 11am before we left the Motel. I decided to cut short our visit to Boston as the weather forecast was rain for the next five days and there was absolutely nothing we could do even if we stayed on.

We thought that we would go to Plymouth to see the replica of the Mayflower but when we got there it was absolutely pouring and the high winds didn't help. We didn't bother to get down but managed to get some photos from a distance. As we proceeded towards Boston I stopped at a lay-by when Alison offered to make sandwiches for lunch. Then I remembered that we could have bought soup to eat with the bread!

I told her not to put the fillings in for the sandwich as I wanted to get the soup. We turned off Route 6 West and headed for Hingham, me praying that it was a coastal town. We passed some lovely properties on the way and the Yanks really know how to live, I thought. We eventually passed Hingham and got to Nantasket, a small harbour town and found what were looking for, an outlet selling take away sea food. I got myself a clam chowder and Alison her lobster bisque, but not before her grumbling having to get out into the rain! It was absolutely delicious!!!

There was no time to waste and we headed for Lebanon via Boston. As we were passing through Boston Some kid nearly knocked into Tuah trying to avoid a pot hole. Fortunately I was quick to counter and avoided a collision. I was so angry and shouted at the kid and he eventually apologised. As we neared Manchester there were signed of the rain easing and I asked Alison to look for a possible Motel stop around the area although we could drive a bit longer but we were not in a hurry. She looked through all the offers in the magazine we picked up at the Visitors Centre on entering New Hampshire, and we managed to find one with continental breakfast.

After checking in we contemplated on what to have for dinner. I didn't quite fancy Chinese and was considering Indian when Alison found a Thai restaurant only 0.1 miles away. We headed for it and had a great meal at a cost of course? Still we had some Pad Thai to take away with us but the staff at the restaurant were not too happy with USD2 tip that Alison left behind..
