By the time we finished updating our website and me trying to make payment to John at New Wave it was 11.30am with mileage reading 68277, before we left the Economy Inn for the Ben & Jerry Ice Cream Factory. Adrian wasn't very interested to know how the ice cream was made but couldn't wait to get his hands on the vanilla ice cream after the tour of the factory. I couldn't recall having seen ice cream with a name like Ben & Jerry before but Alison was adamant that one can get them in KL!! I was becoming a glutton myself as at the end of the tour we were all given a scoop of the latest collection the factory was making but that didn't satisfy me and I asked Alison to buy a banana split to share between us. I was so full of ice cream that I didn't think I could face any for weeks to come. We left the factory at about 1.30pm towards New York State. Alison asked if the setting for the GPS was all right with me when I spotted the larger scale map we got from the AAA showing a road through some islands in a lake, which turned out to be Champlain Islands. I asked her to change the GPS setting to head for South Hero the first of the towns on the islands. The drive through the Islands which is a holiday destination for RVs and campers alike was fascinating and pleasant if not for the rain which was belting down for most of the time since we got out Barre. I spotted signs indicating the “Bluegrass Festival” which is one of the biggest camping and musical festival but unfortunately not for the weekend we were there. As we crossed over to New York at Rouses Point I realised that we were only1 mile from the Canadian border and 50 odd miles from Montreal. I wanted to ask the customs then if we could take the car out temporarily if we could obtain Canadian visa. But just as I was turning into the customs compound I was hit with the sudden need to go to the loo. I had to find one quickly and managed to get to a garage just in time. The rain continued now with hail stones and I thought it wise to forget the idea of going back to the customs. We then proceeded in the direction towards where there was offers for cheap rates at motels and when we stopped at a visitors centre I had a look at the map and thought it would take us too far out of way. I set the GPS for Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake, towns which are off the the main roads and turned out to be very nice but all the motels had No Vacancy signs displayed. Apparently there was a marathon run in Tupper Lake this weekend. As we continued towards Watertown, and with the rain having stopped, Alison spotted a sign indicating a Public campsite. We turned in and found that the campsite was nearby a lake complete with a beach front to the lake. We decided to stop for the night and at USD21.75 it was a wise move even knowing that if we wanted a shower in the morning we needed to drive to it. As we settled in at the Cranberry Lake Campsite in the Adirondack Forest, a group of scouts with one of their teachers came over to have a chat and looked around Tuah. They promised to return tomorrow for a photo session and signing of our guest books but we shall see??
