| 27th June 2009; Adirondack Forest towards Niagara Falls |
|
It was raining all night after we had turned in fortunately and when I got up at 6.30am it was still drizzling but I managed to make coffee while writing up the journal. By 9am Alison was ready to come down and as the drizzle was fairly light she cooked breakfast while I quickly put the tent down for fear of more rain coming our way. Obviously the scouts never came back but as we were leaving I drove around the campsite but they were either still sleeping or huddled in one tent somewhere. As we left Adirondack Forest the rain became heavy and I thought it was good timing that we left while noticing there was a bike race going on in the wet. The poor sods! After a couple of hours driving the rain eased and we could see the sunshine peeking through the clouds. When I spotted a rest area I pulled over to let Adrian run around for a bit. He would never say no when he sees a bit of grass and a place where he can put his toys down. We decided to have a light lunch of soup while stopped. As we went along the weather continued to improve which made us change our mind about going to a Motel and instead find a campsite nearby Niagara Falls. Alison rang one campsite up which quoted USD34 for us to camp as it was one of KOA site. They are known to be good sites but not at the price quoted. Our next option was to look for a state park site and we found the Four Mile Creek campsite which had pretty good facilities, on paper that is! When we got to the campsite, it looked obviously popular as there was not much choice of pitches left. We found a pitch which was quite near to the toilet facilities with a laundry machine, a chance to do our washing properly, hooray! On arrival I took Adrian immediately to the playground which was full of kids and he couldn't wait to make friends, while Alison prepared dinner. Dinner was When he had enough of the playground, as the kids had their own friends to play with, he was ready to go back to Tuah. Dinner was left over curry from two days ago and an omelette (although I would have preferred fried egg, deep fried or sunny side up) with rice and sambal belacan. What would I do without sambal. It was good meal for me and as always Adrian enjoyed his rice and egg. Even with a full stomach I still had room for the strawberries bought earlier from a farm. As it turned out the Four Mile Creek campsite was the best so far as it had facilities for washing plates and a free shower. In the toilet facilities, which was great and I intended to make full use of it. The price for weekend was USD4 extra which otherwise would have been USD 17.50. As usual various curious people came over to ask us questions and we could see that one particular couple was looking a tour tent throughout dinner but never came. After dinner Alison bathed Adrian while I put my medication in the daily boxes I had with me and cleared some of the plates but didn't know where the pots were supposed to go and left them to Alison to put away, with a comment of course! Unfortunately the drier was being used by someone else and Alison couldn't wait preferring to get up early in the morning to finish off the laundry. She was concern enough to ask if I wanted to sleep on her side without the ladder just in case she woke me up in the morning to go down, love that's what it was!!
