28th June 2008; Niagara Falls to Buffalo

I was still in the tent when I heard voices outside and it turned out to be another couple enquiring about our trip. I was tempted to shout out to Alison not to exaggerate on her dreams and thought better of it. I had my shower and thought that not many campers shower in the mornings in USA as I hadn't noticed anyone going in and it was a big crowded campsite. As I was finishing taking the tent down our neighbouring camper, Bob and Margaret came over for a chat.. They lived in Buffalo but at times just for the fun of it go camping.

When we left Four Mile Creek campsite it was just starting to drizzle but by the time we found a parking bay it was more that drizzling at American Falls. I was getting irritated with Alison waiting for me and told her to go ahead and look for shelter while lock up Tuah. I didn't think she like the idea having to walk by herself with Adrian, but what's the point of hanging around and getting wet?

Our first sight of the falls was the American Falls, which we didn't know at the time, and thought that it was nothing compared to Victoria Falls. We decided then to take the boat ride on the Maid of the Mist. We had a close up look first at the American Falls and then the Horse Shoe Falls. Only then we believed that the Niagara Falls was wider than Victoria Falls.

As we knew that we couldn't get across to Canada without a visa and it was raining in any case we decided to leave for Buffalo to satisfy Alison's cravings for Buffalo wings. We got to the Anchor Bar 2pm and it was fairly full but we got a table straight away. I immediately offered Alison to take the hottest stuff on offer and it was stated as “suicidal” and Alison agreed. I also had beef broth which turned out to be very nice but he chicken was damn bloody hot!!! So hot that I felt numbed after the first wing that I took. Between us we managed to eat 12 pieces and packed the remaining 8, which we could have for dinner.... not that I wanted them but to avoid wastage.

When we left the restaurant it was piddling down wit rain which made us decide to stop for the night a few miles south of buffalo as there was no point in driving in the rain. We found Econo Lodge and it was cheap enough with the AAA discount with continental breakfast thrown in. Guess what we had for dinner.....Buffalo wings of course, which worried me of the effects it would have on my stomach. Poor Adrian had to settle for cereals tonight but he was not complaining.
