23rd May 2008 - Merzouga to Tinghir , Morocco
Friday, 23 May 2008 00:00

The team including Tuah who had to stay out in the open overnight decided that one full day in the desert was quite enough. It was time to settle the bill and move on towards Ouarzazate at our own pace.

Ali With Ali & Hamid

At noon we left Maison Merzouga and within 40 minutes we were in Efroud where we had a quick look around and top up the cash reserve.

one of the larger towns - Erfoud Ibrahim - what makes a Berbere violin

Adrian entertained Mohamed

20 miles out of Efroud we stopped at a Berbere style rest area with the unique underground water system flowing from the mountains. Ibrahim, Mohamed and of course Adrian entertained us while Tuah was left in the hot Sun.

Tuah left out in the Sun

We left with a promise that we will send the photos to Mohamed with Ibrahim hoping that one day he may get to Malaysia and Yousof suggesting for us to sponsor them for travel documents.

Along the way we could see the swirling wind forming mini cyclones and spotted trucks loaded to their limits.

We arrived in Tinghir at 4.15pm and decided to spend the night seeing that the hotel charge was only 150 Dhs, saving us to put up the tent etc. We then had ample time to drive into the gorge.

While we stopped where the road ended, Alison was greeted by someone in a car and she snubbed him ….la!(no! in Morac). Jamil shouldn’t have worn blue as all the touts we met had been wearing it. Aziz who was driving had been to Malaysia several times for his business while Elizabeth originally from Holland had fallen for Morocco and Jamil. We declined the invitation for tea as we had to get back for dinner at the guest house as arranged.
