25th May 2008 - Boumalne du Dades to Marakesh , Morocco
Sunday, 25 May 2008 00:00

Dinner was good last night and we all had a good rest and slept soundly. Breakfast was good too and the house youghart was so good that we had to buy some of for Adrian to take with us. We met an American couple who slept under the stars in the desert without realizing that they were in Merzouga. During our farewell chat with Aziz and Hussein (who acts as a guide, when not waiting), we were made aware that we had been on the most difficult piste in Morocco the day before!!!

Checking the prices Veronique

A few miles before Ouarzazate we stumbled on to this hidden reassure known as Sultana Royal Golf, with exclusive housing built by a reservoir. Veronique, came down to invite us in and to our disbelief the menu was reasonably priced. The room rates are however a bit pricy but we had no intention of staying the night and enjoyed our meal.

Lets have someting to drink What price are these houses

As the restaurant was not that busy we had the opportunity to enquire about the complex while Adrian had a free run of the place and I took photos. When settling the bill we found out that we had been served by Mr. Badawi no less.

Thank you Mr. Badawi - you are not related to Malaysias PM

Our intention of stopping in Ouarzazate was to visit the studios where some of the well known movies were made. We found Atlas Corp Studios without any problem but the wind was too much for Arian.

Covered up - too windy

We did a quick tour of the studios with our guide - who pointed out to us the stting for Jurusalem in the distance. I noted that the first film listed was made in 1984 – The Jewel of the Nile which led me to ask about the Western films and Lawrence of Arabia made prior to 84. I wasn’t given a convincing answer but we left satisfied that we had visited what we wanted to see.

A few hundred meters down the road, lo and behold, there stood another studio! I guess that was where the other films not listed were made – taken for a ride yet again! As we were quite a distance from Marakesh we decided to feed Adrian before it got too dark and buy takeaway grilled meat at a small village where we knew we would not be hassle by touts as there would be no tourists.

Need some more yoghurt Mum Finishing the fourth tub

Unfortunately, the day didn’t end too well as in the night we couldn’t find any small hotels, guest house or auberge as is known in Morocco. We were not prepared to pay excessively for a half nights stay at a 5* hotel and ended up sleeping in Tuah at Marakesh airport parking!
