15th November 2008

We woke up with the sky looking more promising than the last 5 days and hurriedly had our breakfast as we had 1 hour of internet connection to utilize before leaving. With all the important messages sent, we were set to leave but

not before me having to go to the loo because of some tummy upset I had from a couple of days ago.

Our destination for the morning was Volterra, as advised by hotel receptionist. The drive to Volterra, offered such fantastic views especially with the sun now shining. The little town of Volterra itself is perched high on a hill and took a lot of effort to climb to get to the square, at least for me and little Adrian. The square was full of market stalls which reminded us of the Deptford market in London.

Alison bought roasted chicken and chips and I got ourselves some fruit and after getting Adrian “something small for him to remember the place, a lizard of all things” we had our lunch in the car.

By 1330 hrs we were on our way to Rome. Alison programmed the sat nav for motorway which meant that we would have to go all the way back to Florence. She then reprogrammed it to minimize motorway which resulted in a shorter distance although part of the time we had to go on a single lane road.

We were in the outskirts of Rome by 1700hrs and saw the need to find accommodation before Adrian got restless. We checked in at Hotel Rasputant and after dinner of kaya sandwiches, I thought of writing my journal and that was when I discovered the new laptop missing. I remembered then, that I had put it on the roof of Tuah and had gone to the loo at the hotel in Siena while Alison offered to shift Tuah to get it loaded. I entirely forgot about it and had driven off with it still on top of the car. Well, what’s done is done and no use crying over spilt milk!
