18th November 2008 - Rome to Siena

We had promised Luis that we will be in Siena by the time he finished work at 1700hrs and all exited about the prospect of meeting up with him and wondering what reward he expected from us. By 1030hrs we were all ready to check out and said our goodbyes to the fellow campers. Since we had a lot of time on our hands, we decided to take the trunk road to Grosseto and then on to Siena.

By 1330hrs we were looking for a place to eat and saw the fork and spoon sign and decided to stop. As it turned out it was a hotel and when I turned Tuah in I realised that we had turned into the driveway of a posh hotel and spa. Before I could finish parking Tuah a bellboy was already on his way to greet us. I had no choice but to ask him if the restaurant was stll open and he guided me to the front desk when frantic telephone calls were made to the kitchen and I was then told that we could still have something to eat.

The head waiter was a nice gentleman who explained to us that there was limited menu due to the time. I ordered my steak and Alison and Adrian had pasta each. It was such a big meal for me and even after sharing with Alison I still couldn't finish it. And the bill came to a whopping 78Euros At least I tried the steak supposedly a speciality dish.

By 1630hrs when we were just negotiating our way to the fortress, Luis called. He was waiting for us when we finally found our way to the bus stop and with total sincerity handed our laptop back. He was even reluctant to accept the T shirt I had for him and offering him money would have been an insult. Luis Enrique Tucca is a Uruguay national working in a restaurant and a beleiver in a good deed would be repayed by another good deed, bless him.

We checked in at the same Park Hotel that we left a couple of days ago with delight knowing that we diidn't have to spend the night in the freezing cold.
