25th November 2008 - Kritharia, Volos

The sun was shining when we woke up today, thank goodness for that. We were about to give up on the weather esecially with 6C experienced yesterday. As forecast the temperature was a high 17C and we took the opportunity to unpack Tuah and give him a bit of a clean up. I took the liberty without asking Doug for permission to wash him as I noticed salt residue in the way of the mudguards.

By 1130hrs Doug was looking for us as we agreed to go up to the mountains today. We left the house around 1230hrs heading for Mt. Pilion where there are 24 villages I believe, dotted around. Doug took us to one called Makrinitsa and to our surprise it had a lot of touristy shops selling local herbs and products.

We had lunch at a small restaurant offering of course local delicacies. There was lamb, chicken and cheese dishes which was consumed with delight. The bill was only 39Euros which was rather cheap considering the amount we ate. I went mad with my camera as the village was stunning, one of the best I have ever seen. Perhaps the sun being out, had something to do with it.

With belly full it was sadly time to leave and Alison managed to get  some herbs while Adrian was persuaded to get a pencil made locally I believe.

As we got back to Volos, Doug brought us to the Port area and the marina which was full of sailing crafts, two of which belonged to a friend of his. Unfortunately the friend was nowhere in sight otherwise we could have gone on board. We had icecream at Hagandaz instead. Thanks to Doug we had a nice day out.

Alison got herself a wristguard as her wrist was getting worse by the day. I just hope that Adrian does not need to be carried anywhere as I don't think I would be able to carry him for more than a few yards witout gasping for air. We turned in early anticipating a hard day tomorrow but the weather promises to be good which is a relief.
