I was determined to leave today and was up at 0700hrs and had my “SSS” before going up to make myself a cup of coffee. By 0915hrs we had packed Tuah and while Alison cleaned up the house I went through the box on the roof to find a T shirt for Doug. By 1030hrs after saying our goodbyes to Doug we were on the road at first heading South until the turn off to Larissa on the highway. We by passed Larissa and headed for Katrini. Here the highway was not completed and stretches between KM to KM were still single lane but wide and not so windy. At .. I spotted a castle still looking intact on top of a hill. I couldn’t resist taking a photo of Tuah with the castle in the background. Alison woke up just as I turned off at .. As that gave us about 70 kms of coastal road, we had plenty of time on our hands before it got dark to find somewhere to spend the night. The areas surrounding Kalava is indeed a holiday destination but not in winter as most of the hotels are shut, and not one campsite was opened. Mind you I wasn’t thinking of camping tonight as we would freeze to death for sure with temperature not rising above 10C even with the sun shining brightly outside. We stopped at a beach hotel to find out if it was opened but unfortunately it was closed for some repairs and the rate was reasonable at 60Euros. Eventually at Palio we came across Villa Nickolas which was open but no one at the reception. Apparently, the receptionist had gone home to cook and the number left at the doorbell was her husband’s which we had called. While we headed for Kalvala she called us to find out if we were coming to stay and we were not going to take the risk ending up driving all night, and returned to Palio. Alison was not too well, and as we didn’t feel like going out to eat, had some bread and cheese and fresh fruits for dinner. We were asleep by 2200hrs. |
