Sept 11; Bodensee to Neuenburg, Germany via Switzerland |
|
It had been raining throughout the night with wind blowing on my side of the tent. It was fortunate that we had bought Adrian a sleeping bag and I didn’t have to share mine with him, and managed to keep myself warm. It was past 9 am before
we got out of the tent and started packing what was left outside the tent which was nothing but the tent itself. So I had to do the job of packing up!
Alison had seen the town of Colmar on the map before we got to Neuenburg yesterday and suggested that we visited it to see if it is anything resembling the Colmar village in Bukit Tinggi. So off we went and lost our way on the highway and wasted 28 kms. On arrival at Colmar I was a bit disappointed at first as I was not really in favour of going there in the first place. But on finding the old part of the city it turned out to be a beautiful place and I couldn’t get enough pictures of it. It was no wonder that Vincent Tan was attracted to it or was it old man Mahathir?
After buying some biscuits and our light branch we left Colmar for Baden-Baden.The highway took us by the Ballons des Vosges region of France where we could witness little villages at the foot of the hills with the chateus on top with Chateau de Haut Koenigsbourg standing out.
On reaching Strasbourg where the EU Parliament is situated we headed for Kehl to avoid further highways and found the route from Kehl to Baden-Baden is full of nice and attractive villages. We stopped for a late lunch of fried fish and mash potatoes cooked at the lay-by. We turned off just before Rastatt towards Baden-Baden and immediately the forest started. We headed for Gernsbach and Bad Herrenalb both of which were deep in the forest and very attractive towns indeed and found a campsite at the latter. We finished our fish bought at Bodensee tonight when Alison fried them and we slept tonight with the sound of the river flowing by.
